FRIDAY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT. - GLASS

Once again Friday has come & gone with me not posting, but I am here with a titbit of "glass" and linking with Astrid.  A couple from my archives & 2 I took today after a baking session.  Very cold and even though we have a "little" freedom, I'm not going anywhere yet for safety's sake.

NOTRE DAME ROSE WINDOW.

As you can see from the date it is well before the terrible fire.  We did a quick tour of a portion of Europe as a side trip when we visited UK that year for a wedding of one of our nephews.

GLASSHOUSE.
This is the glasshouse at RHS Rosemoor which are lovely gardens in Devon.  Taken in 2011 on another trip for a niece's wedding.

BAKING.
My very old Pyrex glass loaf dish which has seen a lot of use over the years for ginger cake, lemon drizzle cake and even meatloaves.  The cake above is a Maori Loaf & ever so quick & easy.  The recipe was given to me by a friend in the 80s, who had a sister-in-law in New Zealand & she made it quite often.
The biscuits above are from a very old Women's Weekly recipe book, which I've been making since I first got married.  Our eldest granddaughter, now 24 loved them.  The glass dish I displayed them in is one I've also had for a long time.  They are now in the tin & we may have one for afternoon tea.........or maybe a piece of cake.
OK, my lot done & dusted and hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I'll link this, then later will pop in to have a peek at the other hunters' photos.
Take care all, stay safe & hugs from down under.
Susan.
PS:  I may have a little post about some quilting tomorrow.😏

FRIDAY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT - APRIL - PURPLE.

First off, a big THANK YOU to all the comments on my last post.  Life has been a little hectic of late, family visitors and a friend who has just undergone major surgery.

Joining in the photo hunt and linking with Astrid.

PURPLE.

First up, a plethora of purple flowers.

Taken at Harlow Carr on our trip in 2011.

These next three were taken on our trip in 2014.

Crocus I think (or maybe colchicum) at Sissinghurst Castle.

The Stray in Harrogate.

Yorkshire countryside.
The last photo was from a day out following the route of the cyclists on the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France.

Clematis on a wall at York Gate garden in 2016.

We visited Crich Tram museum in 2014 & I remembered this tram on display.  Temple Newsam is somewhere that is quite memorable for both Keith and I.  For me it is where I first met my blog pal Jo, from Through the Keyhole & hubby has a family story about the house, which is either myth or true, but a good yarn anyway.
Way back in 2011 whilst in UK, we attended my niece's wedding and took a quilt with me for their present & she had requested some purple to be included as it is her favourite colour.
The only photo I have of it.
Designed on my trusty Quilt Wizard and I called it Chelsfield Star.

Our place names on the table at the wedding reception.
One last photo which you may have seen recently, but just had to include it for this colour., as it is craft by both of us.
The quilt I made for our eldest granddaughter which I want to deliver in person, so hopefully sometime this year and the lovely "purple" window frame by hubby which is now on the brick wall on the verandah.
OK..............my lot done and dusted for this week and hope you enjoy.  We've done purple before and I think I've shown different from last time.  Hopefully.!!
Take care all, stay safe & hugs from down under.
Susan.😊

FRIDAY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT - FARM.

Today our word is "FARM" & I kept thinking of more and more things that fitted, but have decided to work with our own area of Gippsland here in Victoria, supposedly some of the best farming country in Australia.  Although suburbia is catching up with us fast, there is certainly plenty of farming, growing & supplying food still going on.  Linking up with Astrid once again

Where do I start......................?

1.  Daffodil farm just south of town which covers many, many acres and is a sight to behold come August.

2.  Dairy farms, which are dotted all around us supplying milk to dairies at Darnum, Korumburra, Leongatha and Poowong among others, further afield.  Cows on the way to be milked one afternoon, taken on one of many forays into countryside.

3.  Tomatoes.  We have some of the hugest glass houses and undercover growing for tomatoes & now we believe aubergines and a few other veg.  These are opposite the big new estate a few streets from us and hopefully will be staying for a long time to come.

Taken yesterday afternoon and I just couldn't get in the whole lot, then took a photo looking toward the hill to the right which is where live.  Photo below.

4.  Apples & stone fruits.  The orchards of today seem so different from what I grew up with in the 50/60s, when we visited the Hills area northwest of Sydney to buy fresh fruit from the roadside stalls.
5.  Canola (rape in UK), potatoes & sheep occupy these paddocks below.  Taken one day when we went for a short drive through countryside around the Thorpedale area to our southeast.
The bright yellow of canola above and sheep grazing in front of  ploughed land ready for potato planting.
6. Hay and silage.
Tractors working, raking and baling the cut hay, above and below colourfully wrapped silage.
7.  Wind farm.  Taken yesterday after looking in my archives for a few more "farm" type photos and not finding any, we decided after our Podiatrist appointment to head toward the coast.  Just outside Wonthaggi, we have a small wind farm, though I'd love to have gone further afield to one of the larger installations, but this will have to do.
Click to enlarge and see the wind turbines.
Sorry about the photo above, but it was cloudy & showery yesterday and made taking photos difficult.
Now, some of the others farm types that popped into my head and Keith's were Solar Farm, Lavender Farm and wait for this............Sewerage Farm - ugh!  No photos available of these, but maybe one day.
Just a little more................the farm we can see from our front gate which is in the middle of our town, surrounded by houses and streets, but still has some cows and old buildings.  One day we know this will be housing as a few streets end at the edge of the paddocks & another main street has driveway crossovers already formed, but for now, it is still the "farm in the middle".
Cattle and cattle egrets.

The old shedding at the top of the hill, which we see from our driveway.

ONE LAST ITEM.
Not sure everyone will recognise this, but I think my UK bloggers may well remember a TV show from past years.  I even got to meet the said Jimmy.

Well, sorry this is so long winded and I did get carried away, but for me farms and farming are a fascinating way of life and although I've never been a farmer, they play such an important part in our lives.  Thank you if you have got this far and hopefully I've not made too many spelling errors or grammatical stuff-ups, as it was done in a few stages due to other commitments today.
Take care all, stay safe and huggles from down under.
Susan.

PS:  Wow, it is very cold today with an icy wind blowing in from the southwest and intermittent showers.   Brrr!!!!

JANUARY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT...2020.

Time again for our photo hunt linking up with the lovely Kate.  No the easiest this month for me, but here's what I came up with.

1.  LOST/FOUND.
This one (I think), I found the most difficult.  Not getting out much this month because of heat, fires etc., I'd not even really thought about the hunt.  Luckily I scoured both my archives and other bits'n'bobs & noticed this sitting in my library of DVDs.
A word for  "lost" and the "found" part is that I actually found something.

2.  PRINT/S.
A set of black & white prints my late mother-in-law gave me many years ago.  These are of Leeds & I framed them in certificate frames, which I felt suited them well & they have hung in our spare bedroom in each house we've lived in.

3.  LUNCH.
Lunch for a pair of King Parrots at our poor now defunct feeder, as the post rotted and fell down whilst we were away in UK last year.  We must resurrect it soon.  Their water bowl is still there & plenty of birds use it to drink.

4.  STARTS WITH M.....
OK, I couldn't make up my mind with this one, so all 3 have a place.
MOSS
The most sumptuous mossy wall.  This photo was taken on a walk in the Lakes District with my friend Jayne.
MALHAM COVE.
The gorgeous Malham Cove, somewhere I love.  I think I took this in 2014, when we said that we'd do the steps up the side next time we visited.  Sad to say, we've been back to UK twice and still not done them.
MORRIS MINOR.
Our beloved car with a rose arbour framing it.
Sorry about that lot, but this is what happens to a mad woman on a seering hot day of 40 degrees.
Ooh, it's yuk..............fires close to our son again in Canberra.... worrying times.

5.  ENDS WITH T.....
CRAFT.
And then---------------these all end with T too.  We have crochet, knit, quilt and woodcraft, which are my wool bowl & cute cat.  My 3 items are all in progress at the moment, though slowly as it's been hot & not comfortable to knit or crochet much.  The quilt has progressed from the photo last post to this and will be on the big machine before too long.

6.  MY OWN CHOICE.
OK, this was something I saw on the internet & thought about how some people have chosen a word for this year & this sort of fell into place for me.  I need a kick up the butt occasionally & I struggle feeling like I'm worthwhile, so I'm plucking up the "courage" to do something about it.  Maybe watch this space!
Enough of my waffling and I'm off to find a cooler spot  in the house, (no cooler outlet here in the study) and also prepare our evening meal of cold meat & salad.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, stay cool or warm wherever you live.
Take care & huggles from Susan.

AUGUST PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT....................LATE!!!

Better than never, as the saying goes.  I took some of these pics whilst in UK, but couldn't download them onto my tablet, then we also had so many issues with internet services.  Thanks to Kate from,
I live, I love, I craft blog for hosting this, but I'm not in the link-up this time. Feeling very flat since we got back & even pondering whether to keep on blogging or not.  Maybe just this one?
Now for the words & photos.

1.  MARK.
Bookmarks I made from paint colour chips for Xmas presents to put into greeting cards.

The beautiful gum leaf bookmark DH fashioned for me, that I have shown before.
2.  DUCK/S.
Found hiding in the foliage of a park, beside the stream that flows through
                                                    Thornton-le-dale in North Yorkshire.

3.  WINDOW.
Ancient stone window surround.
This was also taken on our trip.  A lovely few hours spent walking through countryside to & around Wharram Percy Medieval Village, which I found absolutely fascinating.

4.  ARM.
Not very exciting, but here is my long "arm" quilting machine.  Sorry for the lousy photo, I should have found another one.

5.  STRAW.
I've gone slightly overboard with this one.  Whilst driving in the beautiful English countryside, I kept spotting "straw" photos, in colour & texture.  Sometimes we just couldn't stop (which irked me), but here a few I thought would fit the bill, so 3 made the cut.
Straw coloured grain waiting to be harvested, again on our visit to Wharram Percy.
Straw bales for sitting on, spreading on the garden as mulch or even feed for animals.  This photo                                                was taken in the large barns at Great Dixter.
A very large haystack which always makes me think...... STRAW.

6.  MY OWN CHOICE.
The beautifully laid out garden in front of the house at Kingston Lacey in Dorset.
My lot done and hopefully some one may notice & I've not posted for nothing.
Have a good week all, take care & huggles.
Susan.

JUNE PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT.

Time again to link with Kate over at I live, I love, I craft, I am me, for the photo hunt.
Our words were a good mix & I found it hard to stick to one, so have doubled up on a few.

1.  NOTICE.
I took this photo many years ago at a Museum in Broken Hill, thinking how my Dad was a proficient morse code operator in his youth.  He started work at 14 as a telegram boy, then was promoted to learn the above.  As time went on he saw much technology come & go.
Now this sign (taken last year in Queensland), tickled my sense of humour.  Again I thought of Dad in his latter years with dementia & wondered how many of us can relate to these circumstances with family or friends as we age.
2.  SPOTTED.
Last Thursday, DH & I had a lovely small walk & spotted a lady out with her young pups in the park.
They are Pointer pups & have ....SPOTS......  There were 3 in this group & another 6 curled up together too.  Now that makes 9...whew, a lot of puppies, but the Mum actually had 12 & three had already gone to their long term homes.  I'd not had my spotted photo, so as well as being able to cuddle one of the pups, having my camera with me meant I had my last photo too.

3.  STARTS WITH A K.....
This photo & the one below were taken many years ago at No.4, our previous home in this suburb.
The kookaburra shown in our Maple, visited regularly for a number of years.

4.  COBWEB.
Cobwebs on a misty morn on our small Magnolia.

5.  STEP.
Another 2 for 1 moment.
Stone steps jutting from a beautiful stone wall, to make climbing over easier.  I remember this was in a village called Sawley, Lancashire, where we had a wander through such pretty scenery.
Not being able to make up my mind, I had to show this old trolley bus at the Ballarat Tram Museum, which we visited earlier this year.  The steps on the outside to the open top are interesting.  I remember trolley buses in Sydney when I was a child & always found them fascinating.  There were very few places where they ran in the 50's, but we were lucky to be able to catch one to a great aunt's place.  Not quite the same as this one.

6.  MY OWN CHOICE.
Sunday & Monday mornings this week just gone.
Around 10am on Sunday, after eating a crumbly biscuit, I went outside to shake off the crumbs, heard a most unusual sound & looked up to the sky.  What did I see, but this hot air balloon drifting right above my head.  It was amazing & I've never seen one here before.  They fly over Melbourne & the Yarra Valley, but not this far east.  I ran inside, got my camera & took a few photos & this was my favourite with the moon.  It was even in our local free paper on Friday, so must have been a real "one off."
4 good frosts in a row, have made for very cold mornings with our pond freezing over, as in the photo above.   Brrrr!!!!!
Well, I know I'm running a bit late, but do hope you enjoy.
I'm off to link up & hopefully see what the other hunter's have come up with.
Take care all, huggles Susan.
