THE DALES

Ongoing tales of our adventures.
On Wednesday we let the car lead us up to Colne where we had morning tea at a little care in the local market.  On this day I didn't take many photos as it was very misty, but we did see this.....

Seen during the English part of the Tour de France.

Countryside views on our way to Colne.
Thursday we decided to go back and see Bolton Abbey, after the rather rainy day we attempted earlier on our holiday.  We wandered all over and saw lots, had lunch at the small tea rooms and enjoyed immensely.

Sheep standing along the wall below the abbey.

Part of the abbey showing the beautiful shapes of the non-existent windows.

Looking up toward the tearooms.

Flowers in an old tree stump.  Loved this idea.
After lunch we headed off to Malham Cove.  We'd gone to Malham before, but not walked to the Cove.  Below just a few photos.

Stone wall on the distant hills.

The cove.

A stone bridge across the stream. Notice I didn't call it a creek.(giggle).

400 hundred stairs to the pavement above the cove.  Our excuse for not going up?  We didn't have time because it was about 3pm and we had to get back for tea.

It was a great day out, not particularly planned, but oh so lovely to explore the Dales.
All for now and hopefully have some time over the next few days to tell about two lovely people I met on Friday and what we did today.  Tomorrow (Sunday) we head toward the Lake District.
Hope the weekend is being kind to you all and take care.
Susan.

  1. I've been enjoying your trip around England through your posts, despite not commenting, Sue. I had to say something on this one, though, as my dad came from Colne. :-)

We spent many family holidays in my great aunt's back-to-back on a cobbled street (real Coronation Street stuff!) then maybe half a mile away up the back lane we were into fields and stone walls and Pendle Hill in the distance.

Happy days - thank you for taking me back!

    1. Hi Hazel, welcome back to blogland. I'd not realised you'd been following, as your blog dropped off my list and on my other computer I have it on my favourites bar. Your memories of Colne sound so precious and we did love the surrounding countryside. In a couple of posts you may get a surprise as to what we've been up to. Take care.

  3. My favourite area is The Dales. You must go back to Malham Cove and climb the steps, the view is amazing, though it did make me a little wobbly as I don't like heights.

    1. I love the Dales too and also do not like heights. It may take me longer to climb those stairs than you, but I would like to do it. See you soon.

  5. I love the black-faced sheep and just couldn't resist putting this photo on. Hope you've settled back now that you are home. Sometimes we need a holiday after our "holiday".

  7. I may not have been to Cornwall but I have been to Colne. And I did a City&Guilds assignment about Malham Cove when I studied patchwork & quilting design many many years ago. I loved Malham. It sounds like you're still enjoying your visit to the UK.
