FRIDAY PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT - MUSIC

Today, the last of Mays' photo hunt words' is MUSIC, so joining in and linking up with Astrid.

Photos are varied aspects from my own enjoyment of music, which I inherited from my Dad.  Growing up in the 50s meant we didn't have TV till I was around 11 years old, so our radio & record player were big parts of my childhood.

The music notes Keith fashioned for me some years ago & I finally framed & now have hanging on the wall.

My beloved Cottage piano which I bought in the late 80's whilst living in Tasmania.

I can tinkle away on the piano, but not well as DH will attest to, so it doesn't get much use now that he is retired and it doesn't live in this position anymore since we had the woodburner installed on this wall.  I learnt to play when I was 5 for about 9 months till we found out the 2nd hand piano we had needed a large amount of work on it, which my parents couldn't afford. Luckily I was able to read music & our public schools always had singing & bands as part of our education. In my teen years I bought one cheap from a Scout Hall, only to find it also need fixing, then we moved & I had to get rid of it as it wouldn't fit in the new house my parents purchased.  Fast forward to a few years in Batlow, & I was given an old one, which definitely had seen better days, so that was left at our rented house we were living in while we built our new house.  The move to Tassie, then saw me purchase a "brand new" one, shown above.

My little table harp, which I actually purchased at Saltaire Mill Music shop in UK.
About all I really know how to play on it is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but I do love it.

Music fabrics, above and below.
I've collected them over the years and do have an idea, but just haven't got around to it yet.

And for the last is this.................................

Andre Rieu in concert at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne in 2009.
I actually took this photo myself so probably not the best.
This wasn't the first of his concert's we'd been to in Melbourne, having attended the one on his first tour of Australia a few years earlier.  The first one was absolutely huge and amazing and the night we were there was the one they recorded for his Australian DVD.
During my teen years I went to very few concerts and then a wonderful experience whilst living in Tassie was seeing Cliff Richard at the Entertainment Centre in Hobart.  One of my pop idols.  Keith and I've also been to some great musicals, so treasure those times very much in these difficult times.
OK, enough twaddle from me about my love of MUSIC & will link this up now.
Thanks to other Hunt bloggers who were way ahead of me.  Take care all, stay safe & hugs from down under.
Susan.

  1. Your cottage piano and table harp are beautiful and it's interesting to read about your love of music and your pianos. You may be spurred on to use your music fabrics now and it would lovely to see what you create.

    1. Thanks Eileen & although not used as much these days, I do still tinkle at times. I've a thought for the fabric and now in lockdown again, maybe it's the right time.

  2. A very interesting post and some great photos for the topic. I love the framed music notes and the music fabric, and the last shot is great, I think it captures the atmosphere of the concert very well :)

    1. Thanks Eunice. I keep wondering if anyone will want to travel to Australia in the future to do live concerts, now that we are once again in lockdown. We'll be the laughing stock of the world.

  3. We went to see Andre Rieu when he was on tour with his orchestra in Birmingham ... we actually enjoyed it so much we went again when he toured again. I would love to see him in his home town ... it was a real spectacle and I have loads of really colourful photos ... I never though of using these for this weeks challenge 😃

    1. Isn't he great along with his wonderful orchestra. My first ever purchase of an LP when I went to work at 15 was Andre Kostelanetz orchestra playing Strauss waltzes. I already had quite a collection of 45s in rock'n'roll style.

  4. I would love to play the piano. It's an instrument I've always loved, my parents bought me one when I was in my teens and I started taking lessons and then went on to my exams, but I just didn't keep it up, I regret that now. Mick's auntie is a huge Cliff Richard fan, I think she's lost count of the number of concerts she's been to, and she went regularly to his charity tennis tournaments.

    1. Thanks Jo. I don't really play very well at all, but still like tinkling away when I can. I was a big Cliff fan in my teenage years and still have albums & CDs that come out to be played.

  5. So glad you managed to join in this month. As usual, interesting stories and photos from you. My favourite is the framed picture of the musical notes, well done that man! Why am I not surprised to see some music themed fabrics? Take care.

    1. Thanks M. K made the notes way back and they suddenly came to light one day, then I had the idea of framing them in a vintage frame & they now hang on the wall in the lounge/dining area. I've an idea for the fabric.

  6. Love those notes K made for you. They look terrific framed. Not sure how large those squares of musical themes are but my immediate thought was ... scatter cushions. I loved all your piano and music stories. I was also a big Cliff fan - originally because all my friends liked Elvis and I had to be different!!! Keep well and cheerful, I saw you were in lockdown again but isn't it only for a short time? Our numbers are creeping up again sadly, and the majority of those who are ill did not have their jab. Take care. xxx

    1. Thanks Carol. The panels could be turned into cushions, but I've another idea in mind. As a teenager I had a large poster of him & one of Rob EG that were inside my wardrobe door as I wasn't allowed to put them elsewhere. I wonder if teens these days have pin-ups in their rooms on display, it's such a different time.

  8. I can’t believe you bought your harp from the music shop at Saltaire- I was there last Saturday! It’s an amazing shop (in one of my favourite places), I would dearly love to own an instrument from there... maybe one day!
