ADVENT CALENDAR 10th

Linking up with Hawthorn and Julie for the Advent Calendar.

DAY 10.

This sign was at the entrance to the Caravan Park in Eden, where we were staying 2 weeks ago and I thought, yes, another number bites the dust.
CRAFT?

Well maybe that is not happening over this weekend, but I did spend a little time out in the garden this afternoon after the club meeting.  It really needs some attention at the moment.  I think these photos possibly pass as craft!!!

We've several kangaroo paw plants dotted around the garden (inherited) and the one near the back fence is actually taller than the fence and some flowers are now leaning out badly.  What do you do when this happens?  Why you cut them and bring them inside to admire.

This mauve Hebe was also here and is now spreading sideways and is hindering the picking of the blueberries (first lot today), so I gave it a little pruning and of course, inside they came.
Why haven't I been crafting?

No. 1 Busy with club meeting.
No. 2.Gardening
No. 3.This is...............

MESSY.
Something I find difficult to work in, so am in the throws of claiming back some order and then we'll do  a little festive stuff once again.  Tomorrow of course it won't be finished  (Xmas party for club), but Monday should see me make some headway.
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.
Take care.
Susan.

ADVENT CALENDAR 9th.

Linking up with Hawthorn and Julie for the Advent Calendar.

DAY 9.

Looking for a knitting pattern yesterday, I discovered this very old one from my late Mum's collection, that for some unknown reason I'd kept.  Notice that price!!!  It must be old indeed as we went over to decimal currency on 14/2/1966.  Think I kept it as there is a singlet/vest pattern which I found rather fascinating.  It certainly came up trumps for my No. 9.
CRAFT.  (Not mine).

Hubby today, played with his new toy.  I now have the pleasure of decorating this little tree.  As this was his first attempt at using the scroll saw, I am absolutely in awe of how well he did.  There are two pieces that slot together down the middle.  Clever boy!

The scroll saw in his shed.
Well not much else to tell, but am still looking for 11 and we have a busy weekend coming up with the car club, our monthly  meeting, on Saturday morning and Sunday sees us going barefoot lawn bowling with our Xmas luncheon to follow.  Ooh, that should be different.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, take care & hugs from Susan.

ADVENT CALENDAR 8th

Thank you for my comments on 7.   Linking up with Hawthorn and Julie for the Advent Calendar.

DAY 8.

The bridge at the end of Gargrave station, where we caught the train to go over the Ribblehead Viaduct which I posted about in November.  This was the first number I found in the UK.

CRAFT (sort of).

The little gold sleigh (I've shown before) filled with frivolous bits and bobs.
I didn't have time today to craft as we went to buy Hubby's Xmas present & take the radiator from our Morris Minor to be looked at.  It is overheating due to deterioration.
I baked this afternoon when we got home, so then I won't have to do anything else other than my festive baking next week.
I also bought some glitter today.  Wonder what that is for?  Watch this space.  Oh, & I found "9" & it may bring back some memories to some!!!
Short and sweet again, but everyday is not so much hard, but finding the time.
Take care all.  See you tomorrow.
Susan.  xxx

ADVENT CALENDAR 7th.

Again linking up with Hawthorn and Julie and the Advent Calendar.

DAY 7.

My 7 was taken on Sunday, when I went to buy some new season cherries, which just at the moment are frightfully expensive due to a big hailstorm in one of the main "cherry" growing areas, that wiped out about 75% of the crop.
CRAFT.

Not much to show for today, as it has been hectic with phone calls to telephone providers & problems with my young brother.  Phew!!!!

I sat out on the verandah fiddling with this wee Styrofoam ball & some gold stars I found in a drawer, when we were moving last year.  Now they have been put to use in this.....

Not the best photo, but it kept sort of twinkling.😊
Just a quick one today and I've still got to find 9, and that is approaching rather fast.
Take care all,
Susan.

ADVENT CALENDAR 6TH.

Hi all and a big thank you for my comments.  Just haven't had time to reply, before I needed to post again for  --6--

DAY 6

A bridge over the footpath beside a canal some where near Halifax (I think).  This was taken in 2014 & I just found it.
Good thing I was browsing the archives.
TRYING TO CRAFT.

Playing with paddle pop sticks to make snowflake type decorations.  Not glued or painted yet.  I have some other ideas as well & will show them another day.
I do have one other finished project to show you.  Some will remember that I finally quilted a Xmas wall hanging earlier this year, but was pieced a couple of years ago.  I have put it up in our hall for the festive season.

Criss Cross Christmas Geese, a quilt I designed myself.
OK, that's all folks.  I am very tired tonight after a hectic day of the usual housework, picking up the hedge trimmings as hubby cut the top of our pittosporum hedge (front done a couple of weeks ago), ironing, an appointment, grocery shopping, phone call from DD, cooking tea and then looking for a few numbers for this calendar, then blogging.  Ah well, that's life.
Huggles,  Susan.

ADVENT CALENDAR 5th

Having known that I wanted to do the Advent Calendar with Hawthorn and Julie, I tried to keep a lookout for numbers over the last 12 months, but being me I kept forgetting.  Whilst in UK on holiday, they seemed to jump out at me more, so quite a few will be from this time.

DAY 5.

The sign says it all.  Yes, once again the walk we did at Gargrave.

CRAFT.

Do we call baking a craft?
I made this unbaked slice for the lovely family over the road as both a thank you gift & wishing them a merry Christmas.  M very nicely mowed our lawn just before we got back from our UK holiday and E fixed a broken nail for me.  She happens to be a nail artist & I'd had a split nail way down for a long time and as it grew it started catching on things.  Ugh!  The recipe come from this book.

My parents bought their first fridge in the early 50's when I was about 3 or 4 and this is the book that came with it.  It's had much use over the years from both my mother and I.
This is the page I use the most.

A little worse for wear these days.
OK, I just had to add this photo too.  One of my favourite roses is flowering well.  I have grown Julia's Rose in many of my gardens over the years.

This is pretty close to the actual colour, which verges somewhere between cafe latte to a dusky apricot/beige.  Hard to describe, but beautiful.  Good for flower arranging too.

Leaving you with a thought to be "nice to others", after witnessing a nasty incident in our main street today, which really surprised me.  Patience is a virtue they say, don't they?

I'll be back tomorrow with something cute, I hope.
Take care,
Susan.

ADVENT CALENDAR 3rd & 4th.

Quick post today as we've been out to a Car Club Xmas do and during next week need to get 2 raffle gifts ready for our club's Xmas luncheon on Sunday.  I'll post about that later in the week & also get some simple crafty gift ideas ready to go with my coming numbers.  Lots of ideas floating around my head, if only I could get them done.

DAY 4.

Looking for a cookbook last week, I suddenly knew I had found my number 4 when I moved this book to find another.

DAY 3.

A walk along the canal at Gargrave (UK trip 2016) gave me this number.  Walking in England is just a wonderful experience & not quite the same here in Oz.  We don't have as much freedom, such as so many public footpaths that can be explored over there.

That's all tonight bloggers, but I'll be back tomorrow with an update & a little crafty bit.
Take care,  Susan.
