JUNE PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT.

Linking up with Kate for June's photo hunt.
1.   The setting sun.
Driving near home one evening and knowing the sun was setting behind us in the west, but to the east was this coloured blob amongst the clouds.  Evidently the sun was being reflected this way across the new estate.  Lucky I took this photo!

2.   Your local wild place.

Could you call this messy  corner of our backyard wild.  Maybe....... as the pile of wee logs & spare roof tiles could be a hiding place for lots of insects etc.

3.   Mug of favourite drink in the garden.
Being very literal with this one.  My mug of weak coffee at 10am this morning, sitting in the violets, whose leaves have a coating of frost.  Yes, it was -1°c this morning.   Brrrrrrrr!

4.   My kind of beautiful.
The River Ribble (I think) at Sawley in Lancashire which for me is a beautiful bucolic view.  Ahhhh!

5.   Look to the skies.
Taken one morning earlier this year at home, as I was fascinated by the cloud formation.  Lucky for me that I noticed it.  Isn't it amazing what we can find in our archives.

6.   Mini beasts.
Another one from the archives.  Taken by chance one day, as we don't get as many skinks here as we did over the other side of town.

7.   Rain.
Snapped last year in The Yorkshire Dales on the road from Otley to Blubberhouses.  Rain in the distance & a lovely rainbow.

8.   Something summery.
This was so HARD Kate!!!!!  As it is the middle of winter here & I've not really taken anything much I class as summery, I searched & searched.............  OK, this has to be it.  A very hot summer day with heat haze & kite surfers having some fun on the water at Inverloch.

9.   Urban wilderness.
This part of my old garden invariably looked like a wilderness, with a 6 foot high Alstroemaria in front of a Pelargonium which climbed the fence.  On the left is a grevillia which the New Holland Honeyeaters loved.  They are nectar seeking native birds.  I do miss that garden.

10.  My choice.
Staying with the wild theme, but indoors instead.  These beautiful floral drawings are on the wall behind the altar at the church attached to the ruins of Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire, somewhere I often turn to when posting on my blog.  We always have a few outings to wander around the ruins, woods, riverside and have a cuppa at one of the lovely cafes dotted about the area.

Well, that's my lot this time and so sorry I'm late, but we've had a few hectic weeks in June.
Hopefully next week, I can do a catch up post on our trip to Sydney, though a lot of my photos didn't either happen or turn out well.  Don't try & take them through the windscreen when travelling, as more are yukky than you think.
Have a good weekend all and take care.

  1. Love the brew in the violets picture. Where do you live now, if its Winter? I see you have a picture of the Ribble in Sawley. I live in Clitheroe, and off to a wedding there today. First time joiner in ofvthe scavenger hunt.Sharon.x

    1. Thanks Sharon & glad you've joined in. Yes it is winter here in Australia & with my photo hunts you will often see photos of UK too, as I'm married to a wonderful Yorkshireman & we've been together for 40+ years. I've been across many times & take lots of photos, some of which are just right for these words at times & having met Hawthorn too make these things special. Hope you enjoyed the wedding.

  2. I recognised No 10 before reading. I went there last September during my visit to Skipton for Yarndale. I love Bolton Abbey and the Priory church.

    1. My goodness, I went to Yarndale last year too. Pity we didn't know about each other's blogs then. I love Bolton abbey & we always visit there & Fountains.

  3. The skink looks quite tiny so I don't think it would freak me out like those giant goannas I have seen in Brisbane...they are scary!

    1. The skinks are only small & not even as big as a blue tongue lizard, which aren't nearly as big as a goanna either. Not scary really, like snakes or big spiders. Thanks for popping in.

  4. Lovely photos. Oh, it looks cold there now with frost on your violets. I love that sky photo, the clouds make such pretty patterns.

    1. Thanks Jo. I'll admit to having quite a lot of sky photos in my archives due to a fascination with clouds, among other things. (lol) It's even colder this morning with -3.

  5. Cracking photos! Yes I agree the Ribble is at Sawley; looks so familiar. I've not been round Bolton Abbey etc so must try to persuade Beloved to go there. Parking is the bind though. Love the rainbow and clouds but dislike the frost! We are still in 'summer' here though it feels more like autumn this past week or so. See you next month!

    1. Thanks M. Thought a few UK folks may have seen that bit of the Ribble & you should get out to Bolton Abbey. Through the week you may be able to park in the street & not have to pay in the carpark. We've done that once or twice or were just plain lucky. Colder this morning, see above.

  9. You have only one indoor pic this month; that's different. I think the categories were a bit tough; did you find that? I'm off to look up skink and goanna, although I'm not sure I want to see them. Nice job.

    1. Yes, mostly outdoors to fit in with Kate's "wild" month, but just wasn't sure what I wanted for my own choice, as long as it was different but on the wild side. Skinks are only tiny lizards about 6"-8" long, the goannas are much bigger, but not poisonous or anything. Our blue-tongues lizards are wonderful too.

  10. Love the photo of the Yorkshire rainbow, and I liked how much Yorkshire featured in your pictures. I miss Bolton Abbey, such a beautiful spot.

    1. Thanks Gillian. I too miss Yorkshire so much, even though I'm actually Australian. It always feels like home when we are there.

  11. I thought you might be here in NZ when I saw the picture of the skink and the frost on the violets. We are expecting snow tomorrow although it is reasonably mild at the moment at 4.6C. (we've been below zero lately). This is the first time I've joined in this hunt and have really enjoyed seeing the pictures everyone has put up - fun. There is so much variety.

    1. Not too far away really & although we don't get snow here, we've had sleety stuff on the odd occasion. It's sure been chilly over the last few days here too. Glad you joined in & enjoyed. Maybe see you next month.
